Aug. 25th, Fire Haze
Today was a mess. The fire haze was even worse compared to yesterday. In the morning I could barely see the mountain walls in Yoho Valley from our camp site at Takkakaw Falls. I arrived at a decision that it was best to head way north to Jasper and Mt. Robson parks and not to wait for another day to see if the situation improved or not. So we packed up and drove across the Kicking Horse Pass to Lake Louise for breakfast. The haze was equally bad there to the point that we could not see beyond the trees at the village. We had a decent breakfast, early lunch at the Husky restaurant and then drove north towards Jasper. Only beyond Columbia Icefield did the situation improve a bit so you could see the outline of the mountains when driving. The situation improved as we approached Jasper. By the time we arrived you could see the mountains around town. We stayed overnight at Wapiti campground. The campground had warm showers (sort of).The view from Takkakaw Falls campground the day before |
At least one happy camper: Anna's fruit salad turned out to be way bigger than expected |
Driving along the Icefield Parkway somewhere around Bow Lake: Only trees and fire haze! And it was like that for most of the way until Columbia Icefield |
View from the car: Waterfowl Lake. You can barely see the water: Forget the mountains. |
Pizza at Lou Lou's Pizza in Jasper: Anna and Tobi's food needs prevailed over more adventurous palates. At least they had Wifi so we could have a peek at the weather forecast. |
